Bridal Makeup Trends

Hey bride-to-be's, whether your planning on getting your makeup done for the big day or doing it yourself, here's what you need to know:

Less IS more!

 Bright Skin

Think fresh and effortless - forget the contour lines and be natural. Stick to your normal concealer and foundation routine and "strobe" your face instead. Highlight the areas that need highlighted to keep that bright-skin look, and your natural contour will thrive!

Sheer Washes of Pinks

When it comes to the cheeks and lips, a hint of pink will make your features pop! Lightly dab blush on the apples of your cheeks, and brush some gloss with pink undertones on your lips to mimic the fresh, just-bitten look.

Soft eyes:

Black eyeliner, and earth-tone shadows may not be the first thing you think of when it comes to the wedding day - but adding these colors to your eyes will add definition in a soft and dreamy way. We all love a nice, winged eye-liner. But let's keep it simple! :) Keep a nice, thin line when it comes to applying the eyeliner to your top lid and your bottom eyelash line. Make a soft, smokey look by taking light browns, and champagne colors to your lids and blending them out with a fluffy brush. Don't forget that mascara! No one likes, smudgy eyes after a good cry - apply some waterproof mascara (like Maybelline's, The Colossal Volume Express) and keep long, bold, lashes that will last the whole day!

Psst! I have ANOTHER Makeup Secret

We all love that "No Makeup" makeup look! But we have a hard time achieving it because we still have blemishes, dark spots, and other flaws we want to hide.

Tip #1: LOVE YOUR FLAWS... and conceal them.

Use concealer as you typically would - nothing changes here with this process.

Tip #2: Mix your primer with your foundation

I know what you'e thinking - "Primer is suppose to go before your foundation" - but this process will actually retain the foundations coverage without it giving you the "cakey" look everyone dreads! This works best with cream foundation. By using cream foundation you get to reap the long-lasting durability it has over liquids and powders.

Mixing cream foundation with primer also helps the makeup blend seamlessly with the first layer of primer on your skin.

If you have oily skin ..

.. your next thought is probably the same as mine was "I have oily skin, so I avoid cream foundation at all costs". Trust me, I know allll your feels on this touchy topic. I have all-day oily skin and HATE it with every ounce of my being. And let's face it, oil-free makeup ain't doing nothin' for us either.  So this brings me to:

Tip #3: Oily Skin No More

When applying cream foundation use a wet sponge. Yup. Sprinkle some water on that baby and get to dabbin'. Most makeup has oil in it because it needs easy blend-ability. Using the wet sponge will pick up the foundations' opaque pigment but not the oils. Great coverage without the shine :)

Make Your Makeup Look Professionally Done

Many people have mixed emotions when it comes to makeup. We love it. We love to hate it. Makeup is supposed to be fun - but makeup is really stinkin' annoying sometimes.. esp when your eyeliner doesn't look the same on both eyes - but we'll get to that at a later time in another blog post.

Let's talk contour :)

Contouring is your BFF.

99.9% of professional makeup artists contour the face. So if you're wondering how movie stars, magazine-cover models, and even the Kardashian's always look so perfectly flawless .. other than a few lip injections, and nose jobs - it's because they have professional makeup artists contouring the heck out of their faces.

What does contour do for you? Well - other than making your makeup application seemingly more difficult - which I promise is not as daunting as people make it seem - It's actually creating a way to bring out features you love about yourself, and hide the imperfections you love to hate. Down-play your forehead while emphasizing your cheekbones. De-emphasize your nose while making your eyes pop! Contouring does all of this - it's an art. An art of highlighting & shading.

I Don't Want No Mediocre Makeup 101 ...continued

  1. Get a concealer than matches your skin tone. Use this on the features you want to bring out. Getting a shade that is too light will potentially make you look kinda like a raccoon orrr like you forgot to blend in your bake powder. I use Maybelline Age Rewind FYI :)
  2. CONTOUR GIRRRL!! We've all watched videos on how to contour. I don't question you know how --> my fav. contouring products: NYX Wonder Contour & Highlight Stick   or NYX Contour & Highlight Pro Pallet
  3. Finish with powder. Always. This is going to make your makeup last for hours! This process is also called "baking". It consists of finishing power or setting powder. Use this is spots where you tend to get oily, like your t-zone (nose, forehead, chin, and even under your eyes). Use this sparingly - if you use too much. You will look washed-out.  --> Try Nyx Studio Finishing Powder for this or even Maybelline Fit Me Translucent Powder

1 Secret Every Makeup-lover Needs to Know.

I'd love to believe when T.I. said "I don't want no mediocre" he was talking about his ladies makeup. Lol I can't even take myself seriously with that - but hey, you did not wake up today to be mediocre - so your makeup shouldn't be mediocre!

I Don't Want No Mediocre Makeup 101

"Srsly.. Why do you need so many different brushes for one look?!" Well - you just do. Here's why:

Lesson Number 1: Investing in the right tools makes all the difference. It doesn't matter how good you are at makeup - if you don't have the right brushes, or product, your look will be mediocre. Just by improving the quality of your brushes and using pigmented products, your application will essentially look professional.

What kind of brushes do you need?

  1. Foundation Brush
  2. Concealer Brush
  3. Fluffy Powder Brush
  4. Blush Brush
  5. Small Blending Brush
  6. Flat Eyeshadow Brush
  7. Precision Angle Brush
  8. Lip Brush

Hate to say it but, it comes down to more than just owning the right brushes - it matters how you hold your brush! It's an MUA known fact that where you hold your brush handle affects your control. If your handling your brush close to the barrel (the metal part of the brush), the more pressure you use - therefore giving you a heavier look. The lower you hold the brush, the lighter the product goes on - giving you a softer look.

What brushes do I use? I prefer Mikasa Beauty brushes - | Mikasa Beauty offers high-end brushes without paying the high-end price. Mikasa's brushes come in a convenient little container that makes it super easy for traveling to different appointments. These brushes are so soft and they blend like a dream! I've recently become an affiliate of Mikasa so to get my discount (15% off) just use: JENNA15 at checkout.

Sidenote: If you guys are into wearing lashes - Mikasa Beauty's lashes are to die for! I absolutely LOVE their lashes in "Big City Nights". Be sure to dabble into these - you will LOVE them just as much as I do.

Stay tuned for my next blog post coming soon - another beauty secret on how to get that "no makeup" makeup look :).

the brow game changer

2 words. Wunder. Brow. Which is actually one word if you're into technicalities.

I was a little sketched out to try it at first, there is always new makeup trends out there and we all want to be innovative when it comes to makeup, right?

When trying out something new my initial thought is always: "do you need it? don't waste your money on something you don't need - it may not even work that well". Although I just wanted to impulse buy, and try it out. I waited and waited and waited until I couldn't bare to watch more makeup artists try this product out, and LOVE it. Sooooo... I bought it.

Needless to say, its my new makeup baby. I'm absolutely in love with the way this product feels on my little brow hairs - it's not heavy, and it gives my brows a NATURAL, sleek, look.

Raise your hand if you've ever felt personally victimized by BAD BROWS. Yes, Mean Girls reference, well because, brows are the Regina George of your face. And if your brows aren't "so fetch" then - in the words of Janice Ian - THEY ARE LIFE RUINERS. THEY RUIN PEOPLE'S LIVES.

Ok, let's stop trying to make fetch happen, and get back to the point. In this day and age, your brows need to be filled in. We don't want to be walking around with Maleficent eyebrows (not the fierce, Angelina Jolie, one - the green one with the dark-as-night-brows). Brows should be natural. And wunderbrow does just that! it's fills & lines your brows, and once it's dry, it's STAYING.

Wunderbrow is a game changer. The brow game changer. Check it out, I know you're going to love it just as much as I do;

'Tis the season for bright, eye-catching colors

And no one better than my AMAZING Blush Doll, Megan Marucci, to sport this bright coral look I did to show off just how beautiful faux sun-kissed skin, rose gold glow, bright lips, and electric eyes can look for Spring!

How I did the faux sun-kissed skin:

Do the typical skin prep you do before applying your foundation (primer, concealer, etc.)

  1. Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream : (get a shade darker than your skin tone) apply under cheek cones, jaw line, edges of your nose and near your hairline on your forehead. Next, Take your foundation and apply to apples of cheeks, your T-line, and eyes. Blend with sponge (don't smear it - dab it).
  2. NYX Contour & Highlight Pro Palette : contour with this powder palette to set the concealer and BB Cream.
  3. Carli Bybel Palette : take the highlighter in Rose Gold and dab a little on your finger, apply to apples of cheeks, tip of nose and chin.

Hope you guys love this look as much as I do!

Happy sun-kissing. xoxo <3

making blue eyes POP!

Hey ya'll! Happy Tuesday!

So I'm getting some questions on the eye makeup I used on my Blush Doll, Brie Baughman (posted yesterday on instagram).

First off - HOW GORGEOUS ARE HER EYES?! - Before I even began, that was the first thing I noticed. And I knew I wanted to make her eyes POP even more! So that was my focal point.

I used Urban Decay's Naked 2 Palette for eye shadow. Colors:

  1. Lid: Chopper
  2. Crease: Tease
  3. Outer Corner: Busted
  4. Inner Corner & Brow Bone: Bootycall

Adding earth tone colors like to the lids of blue eyes makes the blue stand out beyond belief. Check out the before and after and you'll see what I mean:

Another thing that really made her eyes stand out was filling in her brows. I pulled the color from Anastasia Beverly Hills' brow wiz in Medium Brown (to line them) and filled them in with the light brown and blonde in BH Cosmetics Pro Brow Palette. By not adding too much to the brow, I was able to blend the colors together to pull-off a soft and light look for her dirty-blonde brows (not making them look orange).

Hope you guys loved this look as much as I loved doing it. So glad Brie decided to become one of my Blush Dolls who will be one of the few faces of Made You Blush | Beauty by Jenna.

Stay tuned - more looks coming!!

Fri-yay? More like Fri-nay.

It's that time for me - you know the one. When mother nature rudely graces her presence every month to remind you, you still haven't had children, yet. It's like, can we turn this into a positive? You can just send me a notification on Facebook, or even a nice text that says "Hey you! You go girl, you're not pregnant! - keep on keepin' on".

No. Momma N is not just touching base - she's coming to stay.... for a week. And it's going to be hell. It's like, okay Ma, CAN YOU BE ANYMORE ANNOYING?! Then you slam the bedroom door in her face, lock her out, and write in your diary about how much of a bitch she can be.

And what's a girl without her bff? Momma N has one - and her bff has "I'm a miserable bitch" written across her forehead, and she full-on-Kim K, "can't even". And oh! Look at that! Grandma Nature is in town and she noticed you lost 4lbs since she saw you last month (as if it's a bad thing). She made sure to bring ALL of the food(s) to "put some meat on your bones!" and we can NOT hurt her feelings.

Did you say you wanted to be productive today? Forget about it. Nothing can stop those cramps except a heating pad and the fetal position.

Is there an inspirational book we can read that will help us get through hell week? If so - there's probably no chance your migraine is going to allow you to read it. Turn the lights out.

If you're in the same sit. as me, stay strong. We can get through this. At least we get the entire weekend to recover, right?

airport muse & travel tips

It's 6 o'clock in the morning as I patiently wait for my airport coffee that is desperately needed after the struggles of checking bags and waiting in the security line. 'Tis the season for travel - whether for business or pleasure, the security line at the airport seems to always be flooded with people headed to another destination.

For you guys, I hope it's somewhere sunny and 75, and full of tranquility. If so, catch a few rays, and throw back some Corona for me. ☀️ (I could use it over this coffee)

In my case, I'll be traveling for business for a few months. I consider myself fortunate to get to travel to a different destination every other month or so, and meet new people in the process. So I guess you could say, I really like my day job. Not many can say that, these days.

So when I travel for business it's pretty obvious I have to be well represented because I never know when I can unexpectedly run in to clients. I'm not a fan of packing a ton of stuff (which is not the case for me right now). If you'd see everything I pack now - you'd assume I was going on a trip for a coupl weeks as opposed to four to five days. This is either because I have anxiety about not having the right outfit or makeup look. Or I'm not organized enough to have set outfits and just one makeup look for the whole trip. (But as a makeup artist one makeup look can be saddening) So let's plan to two. 😚

So I want to have a go-to travel makeup bag. Right now, I'm cramming all my stuff into one instead of just taking what is necessary. So I figured, what better place to sort this out than my blog? That way I can share with you guys too!

Lets Start with the Basics

No matter what makeup look you're going for - you still need your basics.

  1. Concealer
  2. Powder
  3. Foundation
  4. Lip Balm
  5. Eyeliner
  6. Mascara
  7. Brushes

Moving on from basics..

  1. NYX Contour & Highlight Pro Palette - in powder. This kit will make it MUCH easier for blending - rather than trying to dab dab dab away at my face. All I'll need is a brush and make a few swipes where I want the highlight and contour.
  2. Colour Pop lippie pencils and foxy mini kit - simple - small matte liquid lipsticks packed into a box of fav lip colors. Perfect for travel and mixing it up to show a few different looks.
  3. Tarte cosmetics eyeshadow palette, another perfect-for-travel gem. Has enough colors to be able to mix it up along with your colourpop mini kit lipsticks.
  4. Estee Lauder's blush (and the color is escaping me) but it's this beautiful gold tone and just makes your cheeks pop! I love it!
  5. Carli Bybel Palette - well, because it's just always my go-to palette! Highlighter and the perfect neutral shadows you could imagine all in one.
  6. can't forget my BH Cosmetics brow palette. That thing is a God-send!

Screw it I'm packing it all. Too indecisive for all this! (Haha) JK!!

I think this is a good start! Let me know what you guys think - or maybe something I can add from your experience?

If you guys are interested in knowing what products I use for "the basics" check out my other blog post "My Top 10" - and you'll have all the answers!

My plane is landing now! Time to go wait in baggage claim and hope my luggage made it to Texas with me. Cross your fingers for me!

xoxo 💋

Okay so it's just the beginning of the week - and I know exactly what you're thinking - IS IT FRIDAY YET?!

Monday and Tuesday are the ugliest of ugly step-sisters and let's face it, they're bitches.

And how do we handle bitches? We show them we're simply just better than the BS they throw our way! With our heads held high (and our heels higher) we handle our shit - and then maybe cry a little when no one's looking HAHA. How do we do it though? One simple word - motivation. And we need a lot of it sometimes.

Whether it's motivation to get your butt out of bed and get to work on time (me), or make it to the gym after working those long 8 hours (again, me). Sometimes we really just don't want to do these little things - that's what they are in the grand scheme of things - little. But they mean a whole lot to our character and essentially our future. So we need something (or some one) to push us little to get our shit together. After all, we are #GIRLBOSS's aren't we?

Sophia Amoruso (founder of Nasty Gal) does just that, in her New York Times Best Seller, #GIRLBOSS. She shares her struggles, and how she powered through them. But it's not just a biography on her life. It relates to us #GIRLBOSS's and some of the shit we deal with (that completely, and utterly just SUCKS) and how it makes you the person you are and shapes you into the future #GIRLBOSS you wanna be.

I've only made it through the first few chapters - and I'm already completely in love. Hell, I was in love after just reading the intro. She hits you with the best words I ever read in my life:

I have three pieces of advice that I want you to remember: Don’t ever grow up. Don’t become a bore. Don’t ever let the Man get to you. Okay? Cool. Then let’s do this
#GIRLBOSS for life.
— Sophia Amoruso, #GIRLBOSS

I'm not going to do a book review and tell you why this is the best thing you could ever read. There are a lot of motivational books out there to convince people they need to work a little harder and push a little further. And if those work for you, then that's great! Keep readin'! You'll know if this book is for you or not. If you want to make something of your passion and dreams, if you're ambitious, and not afraid of failure, then consider yourself a #GIRLBOSS.

kindness makes you beautiful

You can tear some one down all you want, but doing that says more about you than it does of that person.

Karma is real, and when it comes back to you, it's not so pretty. Treat others how you want to be treated. Build people up. Make them feel good about themselves. Put yourself in others shoes. The girl at the cash register isn't mean-mugging you. She's having a bad day. Talk to her. Tell her she looks beautiful. Smile at her. Make her feel good.

Yes, we will all meet people in our lives that we are not the fondest of and who may try to deliberately bring you down. Ignore them. You can not fight fire with fire. Be kind to them.

Being kind is not a sign of weakness. Kindness is genuine and one of the greatest things you can give someone.

"Be so kind that if anyone were to say something bad about you they wouldn't believe it."

my top 10

We all have our favorite makeup - the ones we keep buying over and over - we use them everyday and feel as if our face isn't complete without using it!

Here are the top 10 cosmetics I can't live without.

  1. Mascara. I've tried, what feels like, millions of different mascara's - being able to find the right one is harder than it seems. Can't be too wet - can't be too dry - and the bristles on the brush have to be just right. My current go-to mascara is Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme Lash Multiplying Volume Mascara in black.
  2. Matte Lip liner. I feel as if I don't have lips without my lip liner (HAHA). By lining the outer edges of my lips and blending a little to the inner part of my lips, that's all I need to make my lips look plump and full. It feels a lot better to me than having a bunch of matte liquid lipstick painted on your lips every day.  All my favorite liners are Colourpop Cosmetics lippie pencils - my go-to is Chi matte.
  3. Carli Bybel Palette. Need I say more? She picked out the best colors for this palette and if I had to choose one palette to have for the rest of my life this would be the one. Perfect highlighter, and perfect shadows for every day. Thank you BH Cosmetics for this gem.
  4. Instant Age Rewind Concealer. This concealer is a god-send to all beauty professionals. Want to get rid of those dark spots and dark circles around your eyes - this is the stuff for the job. It brightens my face in all the right ways and its long-lasting!
  5. NYX Highlight and Contour Pro Palette. The PERFECT contouring colors all in one. The end.
  6. Brow Palette. This gives my face life. It's no joke - eyebrows are very crucial when it comes to getting the right look that fits you best. This palette has everything in one - the liner, the filler and the blending. Thanks again BH Cosmetics - you're a life saver.
  7. Waterproof Eyeliner. It's possible this may be the hardest thing to get off your eyes at the end of the day - but it's the best for all-day wear and I swear by it. I buy my black waterproof eyeliner from Palladio (which is sold in Sally's Beauty Supply). He's taking you swimming on your first date? No problem thanks to Palladio.
  8. Lip balm. It's a necessity. Mary Kay Satin Lips lip balm keeps my lips hydrated and soft. Which is something you really need if you like wearing lipstick (especially liquid matte). Plus - who wants to kiss crusty lips anyway?!
  9. BB Cream. Sun-kissed glow. Skin care & makeup in one. That is all.
  10. Last  but not least - have to hand this one to my handy Skin Care. If you have oily skin, you know the struggle of how makeup reacts to it. Ew. Neutrogena's Oil-free foaming scrub works best for removing those blemishes and treating oily skin. This helps with makeup going on smoothly and looking fresh throughout the day.

Boudoir Photo Shoot Makeup

If you're looking for a wedding or even anniversary gift for your fiance or hubby, then boudoir photo shoots are definitely something to consider. Boudoir photo shoots are a sexy gift to give your man for the special day - I mean what better way to get him going than sexy snapshots of you that will leave him drooooling (wink, wink).

A few weeks back I had my first, ever, boudoir makeup appointment. I had a beautiful client on my hands, Rebecca, which made the look I did on her a piece of cake - but it was such a fun and different look to do and I loved the way it turned out (and so did she!!)

The pics turned out amazing!!!
— Rebecca J.

After the photo shoot, she reached out to me and thanked me for the work and I was so happy that I got to take part in something so special to her - and make her feel beautiful during her photo shoot.

Photo Shoot Ready

"How does the process work?" "How is Boudoir makeup any different than glam makeup or every-day makeup?"

Tutorial coming soon on how the process works - all the application basics and tips on the makeup I use on my clients to be photo-shoot ready!

You know those selfies you love taking? And how you always want the perfect lighting to make your skin look flawless and the color of your eyes pop? - well that's what my boudoir makeup does. It makes your skin flawlessly gleam in your photos, and the eye makeup (soft, sultry, sexy) that goes best with your skin tone and eye color, will be sure to make your man get lost in you.

Not only do I offer makeup for this, but also do hair for this as well. No, I'm not a hair-styling expert but I know what look goes best for this and how to get it - beauty in all aspects of the word is my focus for your shoot and I go above and beyond for my clients to make sure they are confident with their results.

Boudoir Makeup Pricing coming soon! :) Stay tuned...

booking me

I've had some questions from a few clients on booking me for weddings (pricing, availability, etc.)

I created a tab for pricing which will be updated within the week. This is something that has taken a lot of time and consideration as I want to be careful when it comes to charges - a lot of thought for time, labor, and overhead has gone into this so I want to make sure it's perfect for my clients.

Also - I have different pricing for different events/requests. Once this tab is updated, please pay close attention to detail. There will be different pricing for Bridal Makeup, Bridal Party Makeup, and different packages for each. Also, pricing for Boudoir Makeup and Event Makeup. If you're feeling like treating yourself and getting a makeover - there will be pricing for that too! :)

My Availability - things will be coming together for this sooner than later. I will have a Calendar posted with my availability and it will be updated frequently. (I think I need an assistant HAHA) I CAN and am WILLING to do more than 1 appointment a day - so if you have questions on whether I can fit you in during a spot that has been taken, please e-mail me.

Can't wait for my calendar to start filling up with your requests! Book quickly! :)

buzzzzzy bee!

Hey guys! It's been awhile and I apologize for abandoning my blog  - things have been crazy in this wonderful world of mine - I just had to take a break to get back on track of things!

If you follow my instagram page (where I share all my favorite looks) then you haven't really missed much. If you don't (you're missing out! lol) that's still okay, I still have much to update you all on.

I'm finally moving into the new apartment I've had my eyes set on for awhile this week - which means (drum rolllllll, please) I'll finally be doing video tutorials. If you remember my quick contouring how-to video, it's going to very similar. You know, the 15 sec. fast-pace video's on little tips and tricks for getting the ultimate beat you want to rock.

This is only temporary - I will be starting a YouTube page for you all to subscribe to in the next month or two when things start to slow down for me. Traveling season has begun for the new year - which mean city after city for the next month - so bear with me for upcoming content! :) Hopefully by the time I'm done traveling I'll be a few steps closer to the YouTube page.

Thanks so much for being patient with me! More blog posts coming soon. <3

crazy, EASY, contouring!!

Easy, peasy, lemon-squeezy!

Contouring - you know, that crazy hot trend that's turning a basic pancake face into bombshell makeup. It looks great but can be over-the-top CONFUSING

Well, I gotta give the credit where it's due! I picked up a Cosmo mag not long ago and finally decided to dive in. There's an article on Crazy-Easy Contouring (yes, I do research - surprise!!!) and it's a face-sculpting technique that isn't so damn hard! And I recommend this to anyone who just can't get the hang of the crazy lines, and blending, and baking gig.

The picture to the right is a look I created by doing this quick and simple technique and I think we've got something here, ladies!

I started off with illuminating perfecting primer from Estee Lauder. Spread a dime-size drop of that over my entire face. Primer helps keep your contour on all day & night!

1. Sculpt yo features girl!

Define your bone structure by taking your go-to bronzer (I use the bronzer from the Carli Bybel palette) and draw a line above your brows, down the sides of your nose, below your cheek bones, and on the tippy tippy, top of your chin.

2. The fiercer, the better!

Make your features pop by dabbing highlighter on the center of your forehead, down the middle of your nose, above your cheekbones, and on top of your chinny chin.

3. Blend

Use a foundation brush to blend the highlighter and bronzer with an "outward" motion - moving it toward the edges of your face.

4. Give it some life!

Add a little color - tap a blush brush into your fav blush (i use estee lauder) and swirl it onto those apples girl! (apples of your cheeks, that is).

TAA-DAA  - look at you, bombshell! You're done. Just add some lippie color, and some mascara (or your fav falsies) for some glam - the world is your runway!

Makeup Of the Day

Feel glam on the go!

First impressions play a big role in my career(s), and I'm not going to feel like I'm making an impression if I'm not confident with the way I present myself.

One thing that makes me feel confident is when I feel that my makeup is on point - in my line of work it's hard to remember names because you meet so many people in one day! But everyone remembers a face. :)

In the world of a full time sales professional, a full time student, and a part time makeup artist, it's hard to find the extra time to spend on your makeup, that you know will make a lasting impression for potential clients and/or potential business partners.

Confidence is key, and I've created a quick and easy, every day look that any girl can use before she conquers the day.
